Category B Asbestos Trained Plumbers & Electrical Engineers

JK Engineering are based in the North West, and have over 20 years’ experience of working in environments containing asbestos all over the UK.

Asbestos is a naturally occurring mineral, which crystallises into thousands of tiny fibres. In the past, asbestos was often used for building insulation, roofing and flooring, and was sometimes also sprayed onto ceilings and walls.

It hasn’t been used in UK since 1999.  It was banned at this time, because its tiny fibres can be inhaled, leading to life-threatening diseases.  These include asbestosis, mesothelioma, pleural thickening, and lung cancer.

Asbestos training is particularly relevant to electricians, plumbers and other trades associated with the construction industry.

Category B Asbestos Trained Professionals

The Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012 (CAR) prevents anyone from removing Asbestos Containing Materials (ACMs) without the correct training.

Due to the massive risks that exposure to asbestos can cause, the Category B (CAT B) course helps learners to understand the risks that are associated with asbestos, so they can avoid disturbing the fibres whilst at work.

As all members of our workforce have completed the CAT B course, they are fully licensed and qualified to work in environments containing all types of unlicensable asbestos materials.  These include:

  • Asbestos Insulation Board (AIB)
  • Thermal insulation
  • Garages, sheds and outbuildings
  • Asbestos sprayed limpet and flock
  • Cement sheets
  • Roof sheets
  • Cement soffits, gutters, downpipes & hoppers
  • Floor tiles
  • Cement flues
  • Textured coatings (Artex)
  • Bitumen products, for example roof felts & DPC
  • Rope, yarns and rope insulation
  • Gaskets
